So I have a bunch to talk about but I'm severely tired and it's already 11:30pm, with work tomorrow morning. Suffice to say, I have moved into a crazy backwoods village about 20 minutes away from work and looking for a new place quickly lol.

That said: Oh 30 day Memes, why do I start you?

This is a Doctor Who one. We'll see if I complete it. I may just end up doing a bunch at a time, so I actually finish it. But yes. Here goes.

Day 1 - Favourite Incarnation of the Doctor

I hate having to choose, I really do. First, I am so far only familiar with Nu!Who, so I have 3 choices. The issue is I love them all seperately for different reasons. I may end up not being able to articulate my reasons well, cuz it's late, but here goes.

I'll start with Eleven, as he is MY Doctor.

The first episode of Doctor Who I ever saw was The Time of Angels and honestly, I didn't really pay the Doctor much thought. Amy was so interesting and clearly the human element to the show, that the Doctor just seemed sorta old and fuddy-duddy. Brilliant, yes, but not very interesting.

Looking back, I laugh at my first impression. After watching the progression from Nine to Ten to Eleven, and the context of River Song, I understand more of why the Doctor was so grumpy in this particular episode. Even with context it took me a re-watch of season 5 to really appreciate just how magnificent Matt Smith is. (I was still too upset over Ten to truly appreciate him at first.)

Eleven is hard for me to describe why I like him, because the season concentrates on Amy's story and the Crack of Doom. I think it's the way he is so incredibly straight-forward when handling crises. Instead of allowing the aliens to leave in The Eleventh Hour, he just calls them right back because he hasn't finished with them yet! Or his speech a-top Stonehenge in The Pandorica Opens.

There's also the fact that though he looks the youngest of the three, Eleven somehow convinces me that he's really the oldest. I think it's the way that he acts like a responsible parent, allowing his charges to make mistakes and decisions without judging, or come to conclusions themselves. Amy's Choice is a prime example of this. As is his conversation with Craig and Sophie in The Lodger.

I only saw 2 episodes from Season 5 before stopping and starting from the beginning, so Nine was really the first Doctor I understood and saw a progression for. Nine's charm and enthusiasm are just infectious but he had a depth to him that was amazing to watch. If he was upset, I was upset, if he was scared, I was scared. If he was serious, I was worried for what would unfold. I utterly believed him. And he could be so serious. But one sight of his maniac grin and I knew everything would be alright. I loved how rough and jagged he could be, yet how soft and caring he was towards Rose. I dearly wish we could have had more time with him.

At first, I didn't like Ten. He just wasn't believable in the same way Nine was. I was utterly hanging off Nine's every word, and here comes this smarmy, slightly arrogant, thin man, making pop-culture references and fighting aliens with swords far too big for him.

Season 2 was hard for me. I almost gave up after Fear Her, as I really didn't understand Ten. (It also didn't help that Girl in the Fireplace and maybe The Idiot's Lantern were really the only episodes I liked until the final two.) I guess I thought that he didn't have the same amount of gravitas as Nine, and couldn't be serious enough for me.

How wrong I was.

Army of Ghosts and Doomsday proved that Ten could be serious. While there are many moments I could name, really the point where I knew I was hooked was the UTTERLY DEVASTATING look on his face as he leans against that wall, with Rose sobbing and pounding on the other side/universe. That DESTROYED me.

After the end of Season 2, I was on Ten's train. He proved to me again and again that he was not only worthy, but far surpassed all the initial doubts. His wit and brilliance were infectious, making me feel smarter than I am and giving me a laugh at the same time. I loved him speaking with Jack during Utopia, and the words he wanted and waited to say to The Master. Ten was really all about words, as Midnight proved. When he resorted to Action, he usually went too far, which was intriguing.

Then there was Waters of Mars. I knew there was a deep side of Ten we hadn't really plumbed the depths of yet, but this was utterly terrifying. I had never been actually afraid OF the Doctor until this point. He reminded me that he was an alien, capable of acts that my human brain can barely fathom. In a different universe, I believe the Doctor could make the Master look like a schoolboy of evil.

This culminated into the two best episodes in Ten's time, IMO... The End of Time. The chats between Ten and Wilf are tragically beautiful. The way Ten is caught between a rock and a hard place at the end, and uses his most hated weapon not to kill, but to defeat is fantastic. I don't think I can even get into just how much I love the rest of the episode from that moment until the end. It is tragic and heartbreaking and absolutely sucks me in, chews me up, and spits me out again. I just... can't even.

I laugh when I think about how I thought Ten couldn't be serious, yet has the most tragic story arc of all the Doctors I've seen. I love him. He is my favourite.

And it doesn't hurt that his actor is such a fantastic man all on his own. The fact that he loves this series as much as any fan does, and how genuinely honoured he always seemed to feel about playing the role... I really love David Tennant as much as I love the character. I could go on about him, as well, but it's very late now and I must stop.
