Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite t.v. show

Uhhh Hmm. There aren't any terrible ones that I can think of, really. Maybe either The Order 23 Job or The Three Days of the Hunter Job. I really hate the types of mental deception they use in these episodes, as it reminds me of the hazing I endured during my Candidate Process for my fraternity. Even if people "deserve" their fate, I still don't enjoy watching it happen. It's a type of squick, I guess.

I love everything this guy does. His Deadpool episodes are PERFECTLY in character and an absolute joy to watch. Can't recommend this guy enough.

Day 05 - A show you hate

Tough, as there's so much CRAP television being forced into mainstream "culture" nowadays. Almost all reality shows count, but especially the ones like "Tool Academy" and "Flavor of Love". That pretty much covers it. I hate specific shows for certain reasons, like "Lost". Never seen it, but I'm so tired of hearing about it that I pretty much will never watch it. Same with "24" and a few other prime time shows.

On a different note, I don't have cable so I can't watch the season premiere of Leverage tonight. I'm trying desperately to find a torrent but I don't think I'm going to tonight. I suppose I should sign up for Itunes again, just so I can watch it 24 hours later. Anyone know if Hulu or TNT do an online broadcast?

Day 22 → A website

http://wwww.inbflat.net/ Simply amazing. Pretty sure I pulled this from Tim Hutton's Twitter, but I can't remember now. It is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen on the internet. I also like it because it reminds me of my love for music, which I have never really felt was "legit" because I've known so many music majors and I wasn't one. They just had a tendency to make me feel like I wasn't good enough to truly enjoy music, or that I don't know what real music is. This link reminded me that A) I'm not in that situation anymore and what they think doesn't fucking matter and B) I really love music.

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever

Hardest question ever. I seriously cannot just pick one. Firefly, The West Wing, Angel, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Red Dwarf... there have been SO MANY. I can't do it. And since I've just gotten into Leverage, I want to include that, but I can't seperate myself from it enough to determine whether it's really going to be a forever-keeper, or whether it's a passing obsession... Stupid hard questions.

bazolomew: (Leverage Christian Stripping)
Cats and my cold congestion woke me up at 8:30am on my only day off between last week and next week. Double disappointing because I had been having an AMAZING dream involving me literally clinging to Christian Kane's waist. I'm still not sure whether I was supposed to be in an episode of Leverage and he was Eliot protecting me, or whether I was just friends with Christian while we were walking somewhere together, but I remember commenting on how defined his hips were and he laughed.

However in the time since I woke up, I watched the final two episodes of Season 2 and am now CRAVING Season 3 like a worm-infected zombie person from Slither. (Watched it again last night for the first time in years.)

Hopefully I can wrangle a way to find Leverage online... we don't pay for television here.

Next up in my TV-Shows-I've-Meant-To-Watch-But-Haven't-Yet Queue is Doctor Who. I'm going to be starting from Christopher Eccleston because I've been told that's where the newer episodes come from and I really want to see David Tennant. I've seen a couple of the new Matt Smith episodes and enjoyed those, so I'm excited.

Day 21 → A recipe

Ok, so not so much a "recipe" because I cannot cook. Instead, I open things and use the microwave while trying to save money. This is what I've done a couple times and really like it. It's cheap, healthy, quick, and lasts at least 4 meals for one person.

Equipment Required:
A Can Opener.
A Big Bowl.
A Spoon.

Ingredients:
1 Can Pinto Beans
1 Can Kidney Beans
1 Can Black Beans
1 Can Sweet Corn (NOT Creamed... ew.)
1 Can Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilis.

Open all cans with Can Opener and drain all EXCEPT Tomato/Chilis. Dump all cans into Big Bowl. Stir with Spoon.

See how easy that was? That's my type of cooking. I'll put some on tortillas and have a burrito, or combine with rice or couscous. Heating optional... I like it cold.

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this t.v season)

This is a gimme. Leverage. I'm obsessed with it right now, if you couldn't tell. It's a well-written heist show with characters, a family atmosphere, and plenty of twists and turns. As an added bonus, a bunch of the episodes are directed by Jonathan Frakes and Star Trek Alumni keep popping up everywhere. So far we've had Brent Spiner, Wil Wheaton, Jeri Ryan, and even Armin Shimerman for a moment. I have a secret desire for John DeLancie to show up sometime... it'll probably never happen but I would love it.

The cast is stellar, making you really come to care for these people, and then the asthetic touches of Christian flashing his muscles everywhere, grunting like Wolverine, and his beautiful long brown hair... unf. I love this show. It's slightly sad that I've been thinking of making a drive up to Portland just to make it to one of Christian's shows in Dante's. Apparently it's only a 15 hour drive from here. Hmm.

Day 20 → A hobby of yours

LARP. I've been Live Action Roleplaying since my senior year in highschool. A group of my friends were having regular Saturday night LARPs at the local university and my best friend invited me to join them. The game was Vampire: The Masquerade. Since then, I've LARPed a few of White Wolf's other systems (Werewolf, Changling, Changing Breeds) but have also stemmed into Convention LARPs like Mega!Paranoia, which is a FANTASTIC game. I'm proud to say that I LARPed at the only house in the country that was specifically bought, maintained, and used for the purposes of LARPing- 2610 Vega Avenue in Cleveland.

I'm semi-looking for a LARP around Santa Maria, but from what I've heard they don't really do that in California, or at least not around the Central Coast. There is, however, a gaming convention in San Luis Obispo at the end of June that listed Paranoia as one of its games, so I'm definitely going to check that out.

Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly)

This song will always make me think of my dad, who died when I was 14. The lyrics just do it to me. Plus I was highly into Phantom around the time he died, and remember sitting in my old bedroom in the old house listening to this song and crying.

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

by Andrew Lloyd Webber

from The Phantom of the Opera

You were once my one companion
You were all that mattered
You were once a friend and father
Then my world was shattered...

Wishing you were somehow here again
Wishing you were somehow near
Sometimes it seemed
If I just dreamed
Somehow you would be here
Wishing I could hear your voice again
Knowing that I never will
Dreaming of you won't help me to do
All that you dreamed I would.

I've been thinking of him a lot lately, as June of this year is the 10th anniversary of his death. I recently realized I've grown tired of hearing my Mom's stories of me when I was little over and over again. I dearly wish for more- basically I'm missing the other half, the other viewpoint. That's just the most recent thing. I also want to know what he'd think of my professional choice- of my college graduation. I want him to help me with the problems I face at work, since he was also a carpenter. I want to steal/borrow his tools that my mom sold. I want to have him teach me and help me refine my skills. I want to hug him. I want to hear his voice.

Yeah. This song is the one that does it to me.

So, instead of reccing something or linking to a past one, I have just finished a new fic which I am posting here. This is a result of playing 16 hours of DragonAge for 2 days in a row and being sexually frustrated enough to daydream about something like this, then have a night dream as well. I am almost finished with my first play-through... I'm just entering the Fort at the end.

I know I've been pretty lax about continuing this meme. Almost as lax as I've been about renewing my paid account. Both are about to change, which is good because 15 userpics is just NOT cutting it.

Anyway:

Day 14 → A non-fictional book

Ace of Cakes: Inside the world of Charm City Cakes

Yes, this is the non-fiction book I have chosen to present to the class. If you are a fan of the show, this book is literally a necessity. Not only does it give backgrounds on Duff and all the decorators and staff of the Bakery, but a large portion is devoted to the story of the creation of the television program as well. It was so interesting to learn about how the show was pitched to Food Network and the changes in Bakery life since it's become basically a film studio as well.

It's just an all around well-put together book, with a GIGANTIC fold-out spread of pictures of every cake they've made. I spent a good 5 minutes looking at just that.

They also extol on the city of Baltimore for a long time too, which I personally don't agree with, but meh. I'm sure I could tell you a number of reasons why Cleveland isn't the hellmouth-pit that it's always proclaimed to be too, but really it only comes down to the fact that I live here and am used to it. Sort of the classic, I-can-say-whatever-I-want-about-my-dumbass-brother-but-I'll-fuck-you-up-if-you-do. I live with my dumbass brother, I'm used to him, I know he's not the best, but if anyone else criticizes him, he's a God.

That and really, Baltimore couldn't hurt to get a little positive publicity now-a-days, just as Michael Symon is doing for Cleveland.

Day 13 → A fictional book

Hmmmm.... there are so many.

While I would love to go with The Drizzt Do'Urden Series by R. A. Salvatore I think I'm going to have to go with Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Darth Bane: Rule of Two, and Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil by Drew Karpyshyn.

These books are the epitome of Star Wars Sith Lore. The first one is basically a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic spin off. If you haven't played the game and intend to, the book with spoil you to the story, unfortunately. However, it is a completely enjoyable read if you played the games and wanted more.

Darth Bane is 1000 years post KotOR but he travels to two of the most infamous places in the game and deals with the remnants of Darth Revan and Darth Malak. It also covers how Darth Bane established the (also infamous) Rule of Two for the Sith- that there must always and only ever be one Master and one Apprentice.

The next two books deal with the issues the Rule of Two proposes and how Bane and his chosen apprentice Zannah deal with such. I personally have not made it to the end of the third book yet, but I am excited to do so and I know it will be awesome.

If you're looking for more Lore about the Sith in the Old Republic, these are the books for you. They really convert you to the Dark Side- to the point where you WANT the characters to do evil things, which was a delightful realization for me. "Wait-- why do I WANT her to kill that guy? Have I really been converted so easily?! Damn the Sith!!"

So, I was the BIGGEST Tomboy when I was a kid, thus why you may mistake me for a boy in this picture. (Granted I haven't really changed much... I tend to go through girlie phases but my default still seems to be boy and when I think of myself, I think of myself in masculine terms until I'm forcibly reminded I'm female. I had a gender!confused childhood, which probably is what has shaped my ideals towards constructionism/Queer Theory.)

Day 05 → Your favorite quote

Once again, I have many. In my senior year of High School I was forced to create a quote book for a class, and ended up liking it so much that when I find something that resonates, I save it in a file on my computer. Of all the ones I've saved, I think this is my favorite, or at least the one resonating with me most right now.

Chance: The last moment I spent on earth was so…small. So normal. I never got to tell anyone what I really felt. What did I ever give anyone?

Elizabeth: You were loved. And you loved in return. That’s about all anyone can ask of the days we have. And don’t you for a minute regret one casual morning or nights there wasn’t some deep thought in the air. Why, even if you just sat near someone watching television—why even then, dear boy, you were a comfort. Someone was thinking: He means the world to me. And I mean the world to him. And we don’t have to speak of it.

From the play It’s Our Town, Too by Susan Miller
