Happy New Year!

So it’s been almost two months, but I’ve been crazy busy.
School ended in mid December. I managed to complete all my finals and ended the semester with a 3.3GPA bringing my cumulative GPA up to about 3.2 which would allow me to graduate Cum Laude were I to graduate soon. (Which I’m not gonna, but just sayin’)
I’m signed up for Beginning Latin 2, Intro to Sociology, and US Modern History next semester, plus Basketball and University band. I’m really worried about Latin since it’s been a year since my last class and most of Latin requires memorization that I probably don’t have anymore.
I finished the slideshow for the Marching Band Banquet and everyone really seemed to enjoy it with the exception of one twirler who emailed me saying that there weren’t enough twirler pictures. She also bitched about last year’s slideshow and the lack of twirler pictures in that. I replied with something to the effect of "I can’t add what I don’t have, so if you want more, you need to encourage your section to actually SEND me some" and I didn’t hear from her again.
I’m going to do Marching Band next year for sure, but possibly not be band librarian since I’m going to try to concentrate on school more than band, and I haven’t decided beyond that.
Our chapter’s taking another Candidate Class this next semester, but I’m not taking a Little. I’m really excited for all of them, but one in particular since I know her really well and she was in my section. I’m also excited because my Little seems interested in taking a Little himself, which will make me a Grandbig. *wipes happy tear*
I declined my nomination for Historian and am planning on pulling a little bit away from the Fraternity for a while. I’m still gonna be active, which means I’ll still be on 2 committees and attend meetings, but I’m going to try to not involve myself in the drama and the inner workings too much.
The Christmas Party was so much fun though. We finally did something that was just playing games and relaxing and rebuilding bonds… though it made me sad that it was the last thing of the year. Hopefully we’ll do something like that next semester before we take the class through… or even during. I’m a little afraid that we might not be as cohesive as we ideally could be for a class, but I’m sure it’ll all work out.
So the week after finals was the first in 3 years that I didn’t spend in Arizona and it was saddening to remember what I’d done last year and how everything had cumulated to how I was spending it this year. I got a little depressed and concentrated on World of Warcraft and Christmas shopping. My roommate went home so it was just me and the cats but they enjoyed watching me wrap presents and I got them some nifty kitty toys as well.
Christmas Eve was spent at the Myers’ house as my brother and his fiancée were home and her family invited us over. We had a good time eating ham and green bean casserole and the best cheesy potatoes in the world before going home and getting ready for Christmas.
Christmas was wonderful. Not only did I get a lot of nice stuff, but my brother and my mom and I really felt like a family again. It was SO nice to just spend the morning with them, playing games and remembering past Christmases. I love the Myers to death and I’m so happy they’ve brought us into their fold, but sometimes I miss having my own family. And now that it’s just the 3 of us and my brother lives far away with his fiancée we never spend time with only us together anymore.
But Christmas morning we did. And while my mom and brother were making breakfast in the kitchen, I sat in the living room really thinking about what it would be like if my dad was still alive. I looked at the chair he used to sit in and I realized just how much I really miss him. And how I really miss being a family.
We spent the morning and into the afternoon playing with our new toys and gadgets and then we went over to Michelle and Steve’s house again like we did last year. We opened presents with the Myers and had a delicious turkey dinner and I think there were more desserts than there was real food, but we ate it all and played the customary Boys Vs Girls showdown. Usually it’s Trivial Pursuit, but this time we played Battle of the Sexes and the boys lost big time. But I don’t fault them because I didn’t know any of the questions they were asked either, and I was surprised when they did know some. The game really is one sided… all the "women" questions were so obscure that you would have to be SuperMom to know them all, yet the "men" questions were like "What does a car have four of that rotate against the ground?" Everyone, man or woman, knows that.
Anyway we left at about 1am and woke up on the 26th just to go back to the Myers’ house to eat left over Ham and Turkey and have another game night. This time we played my new board game Carcassonne, along with the newest incarnation of Cranium. I don’t even remember who won, but a good time was had by all.
Then finally on the 27th the Myers came over to my mom’s house where my brother made steak and chicken and we watched basketball for a while.
On the 28th my brother, mom, and I went out to eat since I was leaving that night and my brother was leaving the next day. My brother and I had managed to make it almost a whole week together without a fight, so I should have known something would happen. We got into a discussion at dinner that then turned into my brother insulting me. Normally when he insults me, I start crying and get defensive or else just take it, but this time for some reason something clicked in my head. Instead of reacting, I just got up and said that I wasn’t going to sit there and take his shit, and left. I would have driven myself home too, but he had drove, so I went to the store next door to look around while he and my mom did their thing. I called her cellphone to tell her where I was, and she sounded upset and told me to come out because they were there and we were going home. I got in the car calm, but told him why I had gotten angry, to which he started being his usual stubborn bull-headed self and since I had nowhere to run to this time, I got defensive and we started arguing again. We only stopped when my mom changed the subject, and I announced that I was going to leave that night instead of the morning like I had previously told her, so they dropped me off at my apartment and we parted ways without really making it up or apologizing. Just like Memorial Day.
I drove to Pet’s house that night and got there just in time to see Ryan Reynolds in Blade Trinity. One look at his character and I’m now hooked on that man. This also started the crazy movie fest. It was kinda late when I got there so we went to bed after Blade was over.
When we woke up we went out shopping and doing errands, stopping to eat at The Olive Garden which was glorious, and ending up back at home with a huge stack of rented movies. We went to the local sex store and bought each other our Christmas presents, and I now have my first vibrator, which I’ve never used because the damn thing doesn’t work! Part of it does, but the other part won’t vibrate like it’s supposed to, so I sent them an email and the registration card. It came with a warrantee that I’m planning on using as soon as I get notification that it’s officially registered. We tried watching Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within but couldn’t make it through the first hour, so Pet told me the ending and I think I’m rather glad we didn’t watch it. We played Mario Kart and Mario Party for a while, the looked around online until we got tired, then went to bed again.
The next day was Sci-Fi mega day. We started with Stargate, which I hadn’t even known existed in movie format, and I was surprised by how much I liked it. I really really liked it. The whole mythology thing I think was what did it for me, I love stuff like that. Next we watched Aliens (the second one) because I’d never seen an Alien movie and everyone I’ve ever talked to said that one is the best. It actually wasn’t too bad. A little suspenseful but the little girl was cute and Sigourney is always cool. We then watched Predator with Ahnold, and I was rooting for the Predator the whole time… I LOVE them. I CRIED at the end. I kinda wanna see all the Predator movies just cuz I love them so much, but I’ve been told the other ones suck as well. We went shopping really quick for booze for New Years, then got back and watched AVP next, which I’d already seen, but I really understood it a lot better after having seen a both an Alien and a Predator movie now. And again, I cried at the end. We then started the first four episodes of Firefly before bed.
The 31st was reserved for Firefly. I’ve wanted to see Firefly since I finished watching Buffy/Angel but never got around to it. My brother burned it for me for Christmas, and I was planning on watching it anyway, but Pet insisted, and who the hell am I to say no to something I really wanted to see anyway? We watched the rest of the episodes plus the Gag reel, while talking to
killerweasel on the phone and celebrating the New Year when it got to midnight. We then started on Serenity… but during Firefly Pet and I had shared two whole bottles of wine. Then I made myself a fuzzy navel after eating turkey salad sandwiches, and my stomach went FUCK YOU. I ended up in the bathroom puking everything up. We started Serenity, but I was really flu-like and threw up again after watching the guy be impaled on the sword at the beginning, then passed out on the bed for most of the movie only to wake up near the end to throw up again, then pass out again, then wake up again to throw up a final time after the movie was over. I also got diarria, which was wonderful, and my body really sucks because the time I woke up to puke during the later part of the movie was right where one of the characters died, so I got spoiled unintentionally. Fucking body.
I woke up early on Jan 1st, still nauseous and shaking, and called my mom to ask for suggestions on how I should care for my problems. She advised me that I didn’t have alcohol poisoning, and I should chew on ice and not try food until I wasn’t feeling so nauseous. I followed her advice and we spent the day watching Fight Club, Oceans’ 11 and 12, and Chocolat. I managed to down 5 crackers and 2 pieces of white bread near the end of the day, and I fell asleep early.
Jan 2nd was the day that Pet had scheduled a meeting with the loan people to get her tax loans or whatever, so I spent the morning playing Mario Kart while they were all at the meeting. I thought I had packed my memory card for my PS2 with my stuff so that I could play FF12 or Bully while I was there, but I couldn’t find it for the life of me. When she got back we went out shopping again, spending the whole day going different places and buying stuff. I got 4 new pairs of pants from Old Navy, a DVD and a car jack for my iPod shuffle at FYE, some smelly spray from Bath and Body Works, and a cat bed, a clothes hamper, a new razor, and medicine from Wal-Mart. We ate at Quiznos and I managed to eat half a medium turkey lite sub and a little bit of broccoli cheese soup without feeling too sick. We got back home in time to catch most of Final Fantasy: Advent Children, and then we finally watched Serenity. OMG. I cheered. I cried. I laughed my ass off at the gag reel. What a movie. I love Joss Whedon. And I now officially love Nathan Fillion. After that we watched Cry Wolf with Jared, and that movie completed confused the hell out of me until the end, when everything made sense. It wasn’t all that great of a movie, but I have to give it credit for tricking me. I usually figure out movies, but that one had me stumped.
Wednesday was spent going How the Hell isn’t it Thursday? We watched the first two episodes of The X Files during the afternoon and we finally managed to get Snakes On A MotherFuckin Plane from the rental place and took it home to watch. It actually wasn’t all that bad. I felt bad for a couple of the snakes that died, (I hate when animals die, even if they’re life-threatening) and felt bad for some of the people, but all in all it was a pretty suspenseful and action-y movie. "I am tired of these motherfuckin snakes on this motherfuckin plane!" (Best line ever) Then we watched Constantine with Foxie. After that we watched the Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift and gaagaa’d over the cars before finishing with The Scorpion King.
Tuesday through Thursday is a little blurry because once I got over the flu, I managed to catch a cold so my head was (still is) all congested and I’m not thinking too well. I know we finished Wednesday evening with the first episode of Dexter though before I conked out.
Thursday we went out to dinner at a huge Chinese Buffet and had fun with all the food and me trying to not have a horrible allergic reaction to the hidden crab in the sushi. (It wasn’t very much so it wasn’t too bad and didn’t last long.) We came back to watch the episode of Top Chef that we had missed the night before, then watched episodes 2.7 and 2.9 of Supernatural with
angelstart and
killerweasel. We then watched Signs which SCARED THE PISS OUT OF ME. OMG. I was a clinging baby monkey all over Pet while we watched it. Something about it just got to me. And when Pet pointed out her window and went OMG THERE’S ONE! I nearly shit a brick. Then I grumbled and pouted for a while. And she laughed. The wh0r. (I was however ultimately disappointed in the movie by what seemed to be the point of the story: Faith in God. It was a cool movie, and I liked how they accomplished it, but I really didn’t care for the message.) I was dying for a happy butterfly movie after Signs and she came up with Dodgeball, which I’ve seen but never realized that my favorite character, Steve the Pirate, is played by Alan Tudyk from Firefly. So that was a nice realization. Yay!
Friday we went out to eat at the local truckstop pretending to be Sam and Dean. It was a blast, like it always is. The truckstop was a buffet and I really enjoyed the fried chicken and the ranch dressing and the ginger cake for dessert but thought everything else was pretty bland. Though I think it was probably because my nose is so stuffed up that I can’t smell anything, which it most of what taste is. We walked around the truckstop and looked at the beautiful knives they had on display before going back home. We watched the last five episodes of Buffy because we wanted to watch Nathan Fillion be EVOL EVOL Caleb, and popped in Angel while we were at it to watch Smiletime, Shells, and Dead End. We finished the evening with Moulin Rouge, which I ended up liking. I’ve never really been a fan of Baz Lurman, and the start of Moulin Rouge bothered me a lot. It seemed to be all about the spectacle and not about the story, because I was getting completely lost about the story with all the crazy camera angles and the dancing around. Everything was going so fast and there were so many shots of women’s crotches that I was starting to get dizzy and sick, but FINALLY they moved into the story. Maybe it was just cuz I’m sick and on medication, but I didn’t start understanding what was happening until the scene in the Elephant with Ewan and Nicole. After that though, I could get into the music, understand what was happening, and what they were doing and I REALLY enjoyed it. Plus Ewan and Nicole=YAY. Especially Ewan and Nicole singing. Much YAY.
This morning we woke up and looked around on the internet for a while before watching Ghostbusters which we had bought the day before. Then I decided that I better go because I wasn’t feeling well and I have my first day of work back at DuBois tomorrow. So I drove home slowly, taking 3 hours because my head is clogged and I kept feeling feint.
I’m back now, obviously, and have plans for this upcoming week along with other news, but it’s late, I’m not feeling well, and I have to be at work in 7 hours so I’m going to sign off now. Goodnight!
